Ascent Trip Report

The hike starts out at the parking lot and immediately goes through spooky alder trees and then up into fir and spruce. It's the most wonderfully built and maintained trail I've ever seen: good log bridges and buttresses, and in the steep upper reaches where erosion is a real problem, a sort of chain link is laid down. There are dozens of switchbacks. It was a blustery day when I was there--wind, occasional rain, and it was cold. The summit usually has spectacular views in every direction--the Pacific, the Columbia River, Mount Hood. But I could see the beach at Seaside, and that was about it. A very pleasant hike, and well worth doing.
