Ascent Trip Report

After looking at my options for trailed southern NH peaks that I hadn't hiked yet, I chose Goodhue Hill, a small hill located in the DePierrefeu-Willard Pond Wildlife Sanctuary.

Since there was no parking at the beginning of the Mill Pond Trail, I parked at the parking lot (not plowed very well) further down the road and walked 70 yd. to the trail. Once I clambered over a rather high snowbank, the trail was completely unbroken. I thought to myself, "Oh boy, I'm gonna earn this one."

The Goodhue Hill was completely unbroken until the last logging road/clearcut before the summit, and after that it was partially unbroken, with faint traces of snowshoe tracks providing some semi-solid snow to walk on.

The trail was moderate most of the way, but it eased before the large near-summit clearcut; it had excellent views but didn't look good on the mountain. Oh well, this place is primarily for animals.

I saw a blaze heading into the woods, so I followed it, and after some trail-finding, I came out onto a rocky outcrop with a view toward Skatutakee Mountain and Mount Monadnock behind it. I took some pics for proof and then headed back down.
