Ascent Trip Report

Followed North Shore Two Medicine Lake Trail to the second, and much larger creek bed that drains the large basin on the south face. Followed the drainage uphill, and scrambled up loose terrain towards sheer cliffs. We traversed east until finding a class III drainage that made for a safe ascent. Made our way towards the summit, and utilized hard packed snow to access a climbable portion of the diorite sill. Reached the summit soon thereafter. No more than a minute after reaching the top, a subadult grizzly bear came to within 30 feet of my partner and me. Fortunately, he appeared to be equally, if not more startled than us, and the bear continued past the summit and down the route we had just climbed up. We ultimately decided to leave the summit and continued on along the ridge towards Flinsch Peak. Saw the bear foraging on scree slopes well below the summit on Rising Wolf's north face. Incredible view of Oldman and Young Man lakes from the Rising Wolf-Flinsch saddle. Continued onward to Dawson Pass and ultimately Mount Helen. Encountered at least 4 other parties on the mountain over the course of the day.
