Ascent Trip ReportDrove to PEI highpoint per Not Won in a Day, and my GPS topo. I bought a map at PEI that shows the highpoint ~1 mi NW of my Garmin GPS Canada v2 topo. I drove on the dirt road to the "potatoe" field and hiked ~100 yards to the obvious high point. The real highpoint I later read is just inside the woods and I did walk along the woods but didn't see any obvious highpoint. I went to the NW side of the woods and hiked through the field and looked into the woods. Given that I didn't find an actual identifier I may have missed the "true" highpoint by a few 10's of feet.
there is a hill about a mile away that looked higher, and I hiked over to it and concluded that it probably is not any higher. I drove around to make sure I was really at the highpoint and concluded that the GPS must be right, or at least it is the best source data I had.
If I did it again I would have walked through the forest a bit more as the book Not Won in a Day states there is suppose to be a marker in the woods for the highpoint. |
