Ascent Trip ReportMuch of the elevation gained occurs in the first 3 miles as you climb though the rocky desert landscape with excellent views of Tucson. From there the trail becomes a bit less steep and the landscape shifts toward to a grassland environment. While the trail appears to be frequented by a number of parties, few seem to venture out past 3 miles from the trailhead. The next few miles to Juniper Basin has a couple of elevation gains and losses. There are several areas where grass and agave encroach on the trail but for the most part it is well marked and maintained. The final 2 miles to the summit gets steep again and in order to actually stand on the summit you will need to climb up a small section of rock. The 360 view is pretty spectacular. Garmin GPS |
