Ascent Trip ReportJill Hodges and I drove up to Charcoal Kilns on a morning which looked like the weather could turn to rain or maybe even snow. Half a foot of snow surrounded the parking lot at Charcoal Kilns, but most of the southern aspects had little to no snow on them. We followed the first mile of trail up Wildrose Peak through a packed snow trough. We ended up loosing the trail and following a few cairns to the ridge top which we followed for awhile regaining the trail further along. The clouds gave way to beautiful sunshine as we approached the summit. Awesome views in all directions!
Our final peak on a great 12 day adventure visiting Lake Mead, Valley of Fire and Red Rock in Nevada also climbing Jumbo Peak, then down to Joshua Tree from some rock climbing and hiking up Sheep Hole Mountain High Point, and finally to Death Valley area to hike Stewart Point, Dantes View Peak and Wildrose Peak along with some fun hikes in Death Valley as well. Now back to Alaska for cold, darkness and high avalanche danger boo!
