Ascent Trip Report

Service road from Manker Flats to Baldy Notch, then onward to the summit via the Devil's Backbone. Out and back.

Weather was discouragingly rainy to start but cleared immediately after reaching the backbone, a trail rightfully lauded as one of the finest in Southern California. Bluebird skies for the duration of the hike equated to incomparable views across the Mojave. Not even the usual zoo on the summit could diminish the high of bagging my first ultra.

6 hours car to car with 45 minutes on the summit for lunch.
