Ascent of Dripping Spring Mountain on 2008-07-12
|Date:||Saturday, July 12, 2008|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Dripping Spring Mountain|
| Elevation:||4801 ft / 1463 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI followed the Jakes Creek Trail from Elkmont to Jakes Gap. After detouring up the Blanket Mountain manway to collect the summit of Blanket, I headed up the Miry Ridge Trail. I departed the trail just east of the summit (where the trail turns south en route to Miry Ridge)-- this was the only place I saw that wasn't blocked by laurel and rhododendron thickets. I didn't find anything at the summit, although I'm not sure I was at the true summit as the thickness of the underbrush prevented me from discerning the immediate elevation. Lots of bumblebees. Roundtrip time from trail to summit was appx. 20 minutes.
After returning to the trail, I continued onward to Ben Parton Lookout.
