Ascent Trip Report

We concur with previous COHPers that Area 3 can be ruled out. And it appears that Area 2 has also been eliminated by the Ware Brothers pit mine.
Area 1 was already the strongest contender and now can stand on its own. We took Groomstown Road from SC311 past the End State Maintenance sign and parked at the End County Maintenance sign. Two woods roads continue from here, and both lead past an abandoned house toward a large open field that is used by deer hunters. Once you're in the field, the rise is noticeable, and the high ground appears to be just beyond a deer stand. On our way through the woods, we were fooled by a closed contour NW of the HP that turned out to be a Carolina bay.
Area 2 was a little hard to find because Moses Wilson Road is now the exit for the quarry, and it's posted No Trespassing. So we went in via the woods paralleling the road. Where we expected to find the summit contour was actually a low area that must have been mined previously. There was lots of mining activity, so we didn’t explore closely.
