Ascent Trip Report

Fred Lobdell's access directions on cohp.org are still good.

This is game land and is best avoided during deer season. I hiked it on Sunday, when no hunting is allowed in NC. The summit route goes right past a deerstand. I saw 3 deer crossing the road within range of the stand.

There are several woods roads on the mountain, so GPS is helpful. In general, you want to take the right turns on the way up. The bushwhack Fred described is no longer a problem. There's now a logging road that goes to the top of the mountain from the saddle between the peaks.

On the way up, I visited the old firetower site. Not sure why they didn't put the tower on the HP.
