Ascent Trip ReportThis was an Atlanta Outdoor Club trip to hit Chestnut Mountain and Dicks Knob; it was an awesome hike with an awesome group!
We started from the campground on Tate City Road with a herd path/bushwhack heading towards Chestnut. The path is easy to lose, but ultimately wraps around towards the "road" near the Chestnut summit. Once on the road, we hit the Chestnut summit for lunch and some incredible views from the meadow on top.
Hopping back on the road, we continued north on the ridge line until the road ended near the base of Steeltrap Knob. We bushwhacked up to Steeltrap and on to the summit of Dicks Knob. Honestly, Chestnut has better views since it has been cleared, but Dicks has some good altitude to it. We descended back to Steeltrap and followed the ridge line westward, ultimately dropping south off of the ridge to find a well maintained path cut between the campground and the base of Steeltrap. That would probably be the easiest way to get up to Dicks!
Another successful peak! 17/29
