Ascent Trip Report

Standard route. Started at Hug Point State Park. (No parking fee; open for day use until 10pm.)

There is no longer a cairn or tape marking the beginning of the jeep road. And it doesn't really jump out at you. Come prepared with a waypoint. Or at least know where you are on the topo, which also makes it obvious enough.

I found a few use trails here and there past the jeep road, but they didn't seem to last very long. Overall I found it to be pretty thick and annoying bushwhacking to the top and it took some time.

Per a sign at the entrance, access is granted during hunting season for walk-ins only. No horses, no bicycles, no ATVs. Hours were listed for weekends (6am - 9pm) and weekdays (just barely caught a glance from the corner of my eye - likely similar).

Though they allow people in during weekdays (possibly hunting season only), I'd avoid it. Lots and lots of current logging operations all along the route. One section of the road was closed (signed "Lines Over Road"), with tape strung across the road to block. I don't know enough about logging to know what exactly was happening, but lots of debris on the road below the line, which connected to another peak. Of course it didn't matter on a Sunday.

Beautiful day: cool, partly cloudy, not a drop of rain, good ocean views. I didn't see any snow anywhere.
