Ascent Trip ReportTotal distance for this trip: 9.5~ miles
Started out up to the Skylight shelter at roughly 3:00pm. Made it to shelter at around 4:00pm and decided that we had enough time to make it to Mt Wilson before it was dark. Dropped our packs at the shelter and hoofed it to Breadloaf. Trail up to Breadloaf was really gentle and easy to run up.
Almost didn't notice the turn off to Mt Wilson and headed straight for the top of Breadloaf. Once we peaked Breadloaf, we headed back to the turn off to continue on the Long Trail N to Mt Wilson. The trail down Breadloaf was pretty slippery with snow mixed in here and there. After getting to the Emily Proctor Shelter, we had to look around for the Long Trail as we didn't know that it was behind the shelter. Found it and continued on to Mt Wilson. We had just made it to the summit when my GPS told me that the sun had just set. It got dark really fast in a short time span of 10 minutes. So we took pictures of the cairn and started to head back to the Skylight Pond shelter. This is when it started to get really cold and it started to snow. It snowed the whole time we were heading back, but was still rather pleasant.
Once we made it back to the shelter we had dinner and then crashed for the night. It was below 30 F that night and it felt it. Other then the pesky mouse that wanted to say hello all night long, it was a great place to sleep. Didn't see any moose though :(.
Woke up the next morning and decided to just head out. The snow from last night made the going really easy as it had covered all the mud and slick rocks. As we descended the snow started to recede from the trail and eventually disappeared around 2800 feet. Overall a fantastic hike in the snow and night :).
