Ascent Trip Report

Thank you, Caleb, for the route directions. I have added some details here.

The Ryegrass Creek Road starts off OR Hwy 78 just east of MP 73 (virtual MP 73.1). Here are my route directions:
0.0 leave the highway and pass through a gate,
1.2 mile continue straight (slight left at Y),
1.8 mile continue straight (slight right at Y),
2.7 continue straight past a corral,
4.3 through an open gate,
4.6 through an open gate,
5.2 turn right towards ridge line (road becomes narrow and rocky)
6.1 reach the ridge line at Point 6042, summit is visible ahead.

I parked at Point 6042 on the ridge for a scenic campsite. From here, follow the road to a saddle at about 5950', then turn uphill and follow a 4x4 track to the ridge west of Point 6234. This track continues west and passes just north of Point 6289 (Sheepshead Mountains high point) and continues west to just below Point 6258.

I included the hike to and from Point 6258 in the trip distance. Saw wild horses and pronghorns on the hike.
