Ascent Trip ReportThis was an awesome hike. The Rocky Gap Road was really washed out so I was only able to make it about 2 miles before I parked. This increased my total hiking distance to 12 miles. Once up and over the limestone ridge, the sandstone scenery is amazing. I'm thankful for all the cairns and painted markings because route finding would have been difficult with all the ups and downs. All the exposure and scrambling made this a fairly dangerous hike so I wouldn't recommend doing it alone. Also, bring more water than you think you will need. Even if you are able to drive all the way to RR Summit, this hike will take several hours. My 3-liter camelbak ran out when I still had 4 miles to go. |
