Ascent Trip ReportThe "Pierre Lavoie" trail, identified on maps as "PL", is primarily a snowshoeing trail during the winter months, but doubles as a nice hiking trail during the rest of the year. However, it's not as well-maintained in the off-winter months. Many of the directional signs and orange ribbons marking the trail on the eastern side and at the summit are either laying on the ground, or missing altogether.
The start of the trail leaves behind the outdoor swimming pool, located near the intersection of Rue Dallaire and Chemin du Refuge. Park there. The trail initially follows a stream behind a subdivision of new homes.
The trail up the west side of the mountain is well-marked; just follow any signs that say, "Chalet" or "Sommet".
The trail down the east side departs the summit from alongside the footpath that leads to the two observation decks (les belvederes). Look for handwritten signs that say, "Cascadeuse", if the regular signs are not up. It's a steep descent over mossy rocks, and continues this way for about the first half-hour.
The eastern trail ends behind the main chalet at the bottom of chair lift.
