Ascent Trip ReportAfter turning back on the Hancocks due to equipment problems (dim headlamp + brook crossing = danger), I headed to Waterville Valley to do a loop over Sandwich Mountain and its two subpeaks.
When I arrived at the parking area off NH 49, I was the only one there. I quickly geared up and headed out, as I had a time limit. I soon came to the crossing of Drakes Brook, where I slipped on a rock and fell into the brook on Oct. 2012. I made it across this time, and then the trail began climbing at easy to moderate grades on a leafy corridor.
I soon came to some rather steep sections below the summit of Noon Peak, and when I negotiated them, I got to a wonderful view of Tecumseh, the Osceolas, Tripyramid, and Mt. Washington. I stuck around for a bit then headed to my next objective, Jennings Peak. |
