Ascent Trip ReportTried to do the CMC route in a day with Scott Vanevenhoven - turned back by thick fog at technical section. Weather forecast was first good one in a few days or we wouldn't have tried.
Left at 12:30 AM on low moon phase night. Easiest way to mountain is to canoe, portage, canoe again, then hike. Thick fog on the lake combined with shallow rocks and total darkness made it surreal. Tricky finding start of route in darkness after paddling across the bay. Long hike in the dark - but now clear skys. Didn't find easy 4th class way to top of Drizzzlepus in the dark- went a wet, higher exposure way. Oops. Got to top of Drizzlepuss and now socked in with fog. Waited for an hour - getting worse. Bailed. If didn't have to do semi-technical downclimbing to get off route may have went for it. Mountain stayed cloudy all day on top - at times quite dark clouds.
First time in my memory failed on major route due to weather.
