Ascent Trip ReportAfter our morning ascent of Gridone, we climbed Rigi on our way back to Zurich airport.
Drove the shore road to Weggis and took the cable car (CHF48 return) to Rigi Kaltbad, then a fairly short stroll to the summit. It is possible to go all the way to the summit by transferring to the cog railway. Cable car (Rigi Bahn) is signposted off main shore road and goes from N47.03375 E8.44047 (497m), at 20 and 50 past the hour. From the top cable car station (N47.04445 E8.46710) it is a matter of following signed paved paths and roads. We are in cloud the whole way but it's not cold. It is mostly dry on the way up but rains hard on the way down.
The summit is a level concrete area with a triangulation point (N47.05676 E8.48530, 1786m) and an info board with details of the first triangulation of Switzerland. Also a comms array. We are at the summit in 40 mins of fast walking, spend 5 mins on top then jog back down to Kaltbad station in 20 mins and take the cable car back down.
At rush hour it's about 1 hour to Zurich airport. This was the 4th P1000m summit of our 4 day trip.
