Ascent Trip Report

A side-trip on the way to Florence via Hwy 126 for Labor Day weekend. There is a microwave tower installation at the summit. A view to the west from around the right side of the installation can be head, but beware of the drop. The Sisters and Diamond Peak were visible. Thielsen may be as well, but the haze (from wildfires?) to the south prevented a glimpse of that one.

Erika carpooled with me from Portland and I could tell that this peak wasn't 'selling' her on peakbagging. Not to say that I fault her assessment; this one isn't worth making a special trip for.

There are quarrying operations going on near the summit; the pond to the north of the peak is in an old quarry pit. We encountered a dump truck just departing the quarry to the NE (about 1/2 mile from summit) even on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Other traffic on the road included a pair of cyclists near 2000' and a few cars (3?) heading up the road as we were driving out.

The road is oiled stone (paved) almost all the way up to the 'trailhead', so that makes it easier and faster than if it was graveled. Here's an excerpt from my mileage log that may be helpful to others trying to make their way to the top of this peak.
