Ascent Trip Report

This unranked hill has a summit outcropping with a great view of Grandfather Mountain.

West of the entrance to Grandfather Mountain on US221 are the grounds for the annual Highland Games. On the south side of the road, just west of the junction with gravel Yonahlossee Road, is a camping area with a circle driveway. Park here and find the grassy woods road which leads uphill. When it ends, there's a well-worn path on the right that continues up to the top.

Be careful on the outcropping--the top boulder is loose. When it rocked under me, I dropped my iPhone camera into a 20-foot-deep crevice and had to make a risky climb to rescue it. Thanks to Otterbox, the phone survived the fall. Meanwhile, I had an little adventure that evoked memories of the movie "127 Hours".

I actually did this little climb twice, going back to my car for a flashlight before exploring the crevice, which can be entered on the west end.
