Ascent Trip ReportArrived at the TH at around 7 am. A car and a van were already there, with only one other party registered at the TH. We never saw anybody going up.
Hike was pleasant, with the steeper sections alternating nicely with level ones. There's a nice ledge with good views before you reach the summit, which is marked with a yellow "End of Trail" disc. The summit is roughly half bald, allowing lots of great views of the mountains around you.
Another pair of hikers appeared while we were relaxing on the summit and having something to eat. From here on in, there were quite a few folks heading up to Haystack's summit, and then descending to go on to McKenzie. We gave advice where we could, and descended the same way we had come up. We took our time coming down and went off-trail here and there to look at various trees and plants.
My last 6er hike. I went right into town afterwards and got my certificate, sticker, and badge, meeting Saranac Lake's mayor and chatting with town staff. I rang the bell at the village green and felt satisfied. |
