Ascent Trip ReportThis day was my son's 30th birthday and he chose to hike Cannon mountain so we would be on the top of the observation tower with the rest of the family that came up the gondola at precisely 10:36 when he was born. We hiked the Hi-Cannon trail and got up there by 10:25 so that was a great success.
The Hi-Cannon trail was a good climb and has a ladder on one section but do not do this if the weather is poor/icy as there are some potentially dangerous spots.
We then went down the Kinsman trail to the Cannon Balls. Tried to find a reasonable place to bushwhack Middle Ball but had no luck. Continued over West Ball to NE Kinsman and then down the Appalachian trail to lonesome lake and then back to Lafayette camp ground where we started from.
Great views in some spots (not much on the Balls)but I was amazed at how many dogs were on the trail and some parts a very steep. |
