Ascent Trip Report

A moderately steep climb westbound from Hospital grounds .... 2.4km, 1h20 RT.

On the drive-in yesterday we were pleasantly surprised to see such a majestic mountain towering over the City of Campbellton. We decided right-then-and-there that it had to be climbed.

We climbed the mountain from the grounds of the Hospital on the east side of the mountain. We found our way to the west end of the hospital and a gated dirt road (construction in progress, a number of trailers parked near-by. This was my TH.

I walked west on the dirt road 50M where a trail continues, crosses the Terry Fox Trail (which circles the bottom of the Mountain) and climbs to the summit, about 1.2km from the TH.
The climb is rocky and moderately steep with man-made stairs near the top. This old man had to take a number of granny stops.

The open rocky outcrop summit has a viewing platform (not really required, another example of typical government waist), there is no Tower. One has to look for the BM embedded in the 1.5M tall concrete pedestal. My GPS at the highest point read 47.98989,-66.68508.

The views are outstanding .... the City of Cambellton, Restigouche River, Chaleur Bay and Quebec's rolling hills of the Gaspe Coast.

From here we traveled north into QC to scout out the Avignon COHP.
