Ascent Trip ReportDespite the iffy weather forecast, I hiked Mount Waumbek for my 22nd 4,000 footer. On the way was its subpeak, Mount Starr King, my first checkpoint.
The Starr King Trail passed by a couple old wells and through woods on an old road at an easy grade. After veering right off the road, the grade became more moderate, then eased as I began to ascend a ridge of Starr King. I refilled one of my water bottles at a spring, as I was low on water due to being thirsty from the high humidity.
With no more water problems, I made a U-turn and climbed up a ledge, reaching the true summit of Starr King at 2.6 mi. 60 yd. down the trail, there was a view to the south which, unfortunately, was blocked by clouds. After taking a breather, I continued to Waumbek.
