Ascent Trip Report

I didn't have a high clearance vehicle which required me to park at the highway 38 turnout at Onyx Summit. The hike from the turnout adds 2 miles each way; which isn't difficult. If one does drive up to the gate, hopefully you don't encounter another vehicle as there are very few places to pass/pull over. The hike up the road is relatively easy. The burn area recover area signs persuaded me not to short-cut parts of the route; as well as trying to meet up with other hikers I knew would be on the hike route. After the gate, it is 1 mile to the summit. Once at the summit, the benchmark and reference mark are located near the communications building to the left. The benchmark is at the high point and about 10 feet from the fence. Great views of the high desert.
