Ascent Trip Report

Mitchell Knob is the first peak on the Eastern Continental Divide as you take the Blue Ridge Parkway north of U.S. 52 at Fancy Gap. I parked on the shoulder where the Parkway crests and then bushwhacked along the ridgeline, which had patches of briars and poison ivy. On top, I emerged into a mowed clearing with wooden and stone crosses. There were some houses along the SW side of the mountain, so it might be worth exploring access from that side. Round trip 0.6 miles. Limited views.
