Ascent Trip ReportAfter we summited the Matterhorn and Peak 9775 (coming up from Ice Lake) we headed off to the tallest point in the Wallowas, Sacajawea. The gendarmes on the ridge between 9775 and Sacajawea are fun obstacles that give you some exposure but are not too difficult. An errant step or broken hold could send someone for a long tumble, but in most cases the rock is good enough to make it easy enough. There is, in most parts, a discernable trail you can follow. Once you hit the 3 larger gendarmes, you will have a couple choices on each one, but it was pretty obvious which one is the best option. The summit isn't as cool as the Matterhorn. Sacajawea is a long ridge that looks to be a huge pile of broken rocks, but it is the highest point! There is a summit register there at a cairn. |
