Ascent Trip Report

This is a 2fer. You can't go to Spruce Knob without going to Seneca and you can't go to Seneca without going to the top of Spruce Knob. We hit this first on the way to the state high point so we could take our daughter to the spectacular summit. The new trail up is a lot easier than the old trail, but still is a lot of elevation gain in just a mile. If you scramble past the observation tower the top narrows to less than 3' wide at the farthest point you can get to. It is straight down on 3 sides from there for hundreds of feet. The exposure factor is always great to enjoy. A word of caution though, the rock is worn smooth and even when dry is slippery. I scrambled up with my daughter and she loved it up there, she thought it was great. No, I didn't take her out to the 3' wide part, we stopped where it is about 7' wide. If you have never been here, check it out. The exposure and the views are what keep me coming back and the climbing here is amazing.
