Ascent Trip ReportThis was my second time up Eagle Cliff Mountain, the lowest peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. My wife, Geri, and I are beginning 2 months of volunteer work at the YMCA Camp of the Rockies and I hope to bag many summits while we are here. This was, of course, just a little acclimatization climb as we get used to the 8000 foot elevation, over 7000 feet higher than our hometown back in Missouri. We started our ascent from the NW side and contoured clockwise around the mountain following elk trails much of the time. I was surprised there wasn't an established trail to the summit, so this tiny mountain is not as easy as it looks. It took us 40 mins. up and 38 mins. down. My GPS recorded exactly 1 mile to the summit by our route. The view from the top is worth the climb, even though this is a small bump compared to the other 100+ peaks in the Park.
