Ascent Trip ReportYarnall Knob is the peak at the south end of Blowing Rock Boulevard in Boone (opposite Howards Knob on the north end). Over 30 acres around the summit are protected by the High Country Conservancy, thanks to the generosity of Boone patriarch Wade Brown.
From where I live, Yarnall Knob is a 2.8-mile round trip, mostly following private or abandoned roads. You can drive to the 3640 saddle SE of the peak and make the round-trip hike just 0.4 miles. From US321 south of Boone, follow Niley Cook Road to Mine Branch Road to Brown Mtn Ridge Road. Park at the dead-end, where you'll see a small sign for the boundary of the High Country Conservancy tract. Follow the old woods road past a boulder berm, and after about 100 yards take the left fork all the way to the top. Limited views through the trees.
