Ascent Trip ReportA plan for a couple of days on the mountain turned into an overnight at the parking lot and a long day hike up and down. We had great weather (hot) and unlimited visibility. We went up the Hiker's route onto Queen's face. The views of the high mountains of Strathcona Park reveal themselves as you head around the east flank of the mountain. Colonel Foster and then Elkhorn dominate, with Rambler in further out and ultimately the Golden Hinde over the shoulder of Elkhorn. The climb is a scramble. We crossed some late season snow and there are a few fun and exposed chutes near the top, especially if you get off of the indistinct trail. Great views from the peak, including Victoria Peak and Mount Waddington in the northern distance. Same route down, 12 hour round trip. |
