Ascent of Pigpen Knob on 2013-07-27
|Date:||Saturday, July 27, 2013|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Location:||USA-North Carolina|
| Elevation:||3480 ft / 1060 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI've been to some summits that were pigpens, but this one isn't--even though it's in the middle of a campground. It's in the Price Lake campground on the Blue Ridge Parkway, well guarded in rhododendron thicket between sites F25 and F27. From the campground, it appears to be an insignificant hill, but it's actually quite rugged on the north side along Boone Fork Creek. No views.
Not wanting to pay $16 for a campsite, I hoofed it from the Price Park picnic ground via the Boone Fork Trail (clockwise) and then following the road in Section F of the campground. Round trip 1.3 miles with a climb of only 120 feet.
