Ascent Trip Report

After reading some of the trip reports I considered going out and purchasing a grappling hook and harpoon gun so I could get through the "holding on to tree roots" section. As it turns out I found a very nifty non-tree root route. This route describes an ascent from the west (right) side of the lake.
Once you arrive at the Devil's Punchbowl cross the lake outlet on a large log then immediately walk through two campsites. Begin an ascending traverse working your way through some bushes for about 10 minutes. Keep looking up for some large rock outcrops and make your way toward these. Once you leave the bushes continue your traverse avoiding the bushes where possible. This ascending traverse takes you up the right side of the SW gully on to a nice talus field. Just keep to the right side along any larger rock outcroppings until you get to within sight of the low point on the ridge off to your left. Leave the talus and traverse up and over to the low point where you should find a duck/carin. No juju, no roots. Takes about an hour (for me)to reach the low point on the ridge. After that turn left and work your way over to the summit. I returned back to the lake using the east side just for grins and it was a lot more work and distance. Enjoy.
