Ascent Trip Report

My son, Marshall, and I approached Blue Mound from the SE side where we located a gravel road leading toward the summit. This road turned out to be someone's lane. It belonged to an Amish family. A friendly man who lived there, named Anthony, called his uncle, who was to actual owner of Blue Mound, to get permission for us to climb. He said he did not want us to climb on the west side of the mound "because it would scare the deer." There seemed to be a bit of reservation about letting us climb on our own, but Anthony was very accommodating and he even drove us up to the summit on his ATV. It was a rough, bumpy ride of about 1/2 mile with no view at the top due to trees, but on the way back down Anthony stopped at an old rock quarry where there was a good view to the SW. Our mountain guide even showed us the summit benchmark which was located a few feet to the west of the ATV trail on top of Blue Mound. I hope other peakbaggers get the same friendly experience that we had here.
