Ascent Trip Report

Drove up in Bill's Subaru. Stayed at ADK Trial Inn. Was Ark Trial Inn, now has new owners.

Awoke Saturdays at 4:45. Breakfast was pack the nigh before by the motel. Very nice of them but I couldn't finish my second hard boiled egg. Got to ADK Loj parking before the were open for business.

Started hiking a little past 6 AM. We hike the loop past Marcy Dam, Avalanche lake (very remote and buggy) and Lake Colden, up to Boundary Peak (Boundary of Iroquois and Algonquin Nations). Then to Iroquois (Tagged summit at 11:20 AM) on a well traveled, maintained path. From there back to Boundary Peak, then to Algonquin (12:30 AM, 2nd highest peak), then to Wright (1:50 PM). The hike up Wright was on a side trail that felt farther and higher than advertised. That part of the trip wiped me out. We were rushing on top because of the threat of thunderstorms. Then back to the Loj parking area. I fell a bit behind at that point. Last night,s dinner was still affecting me and 3 peaks and over 10 miles at that point was enough for the first hike of the season. We finished at just over 14 miles.

There were a lot of hikers on the trail. Probably half of them were French Canadians.

Like the night before, we had dinner at ADK Cafe.

That night was an early night for all of us.
