Ascent Trip ReportA two day outing with a camp at the Notch over the Fryingpan glacier. We left with a party of two (my partner didn't have skis), and our sister party (all on skis) left two hours later and arrived at the notch at the same time.
Winds were very heavy at the notch (50mph?). It was hard to stand up straight, and our tent ultimately snapped a pole and became worthless. There is a large tent site on the ridge without rockwall protection that is not recommended.
We wanted to leave at 6AM for the summit, but left at 8:30AM instead due to the high winds. The summit route was straightforward and loose rock was fairly minimal this time of year thanks to snowfields. |
