Ascent Trip ReportThree day / two night backpack to hit eleven peaks in the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area.
Day 1: Started from the SB Peak Divide Trail head in Angelus Oaks. Hiked six miles or so into camp, at Limber Pine Bench Camp, elevation 9,200' or so. Set up camp and relaxed the rest of the day to get an early start the next day.
Day 2: Got an early start and continued up the SB Peak Divide Trail to Washington's Monument, then continued on to San Bernardino Peak and the San Bernardino East peak. Continued on the SB Peak Divide Trail to the junction of the Forsee Creek Trail, where we headed off southeast, up the northwest ridge of Anderson Peak. From there we headed down Anderson's northeast ridge back to the SB Peak Divide Trail at Anderson Flat. Stayed on the SB Peak Divide Trail until Shields Peak, where we scrambled up Shields' rocky west ridge. From there we headed further on down the SB Peak Divide Trail, scrambling a few feet up off the trail to tag Alto Diablo, and then continued on to High Meadow Springs Camp.
Day 3: From High Meadow Springs Camp, we headed on to Dollar Lake Saddle, and then took a right turn, heading south to wrap around Charlton and Little Charlton. We headed off trail to scramble up Little Charlton and Charlton, and then scrambled down from the C/LC saddle back to the SB Peak Divide Trail. We continued on the trail all the way to San G herself, which was our 3rd peak of the day, and 8th over all. From there, the plan was to head back up the SB Peak Divide Trial over to the rim of the big draw, and then head along the rim cross-country to Jepson, but one of our party wasn't going to be able to make it. Rather than have him walk down the trail by himself, we walked down the trail to the ridge that connects Jepson to Little Dobbs. We headed up the ridge to Jepson, then headed back down to the trail and crossed it, heading down to Little Dobbs. From Little Dobbs, we headed west to Dobbs, and after Dobbs, we took a quick break before heading down Dobbs' west ridge. We took Dobbs' west ridge all the way down to around 7,200', where we connected with the Vivian Creek Trail. We then headed down the trail to the parking lot, where we had left the 2nd car of our shuttle.
All in all, the trip was eleven peaks, 26 miles, and 8,700' gain. |
