Ascent Trip ReportHead north on Trout Creek Road from its junction with Bottle Creek Road for 3.8 miles. At this point a 4WD track takes off to the west with a BLM sign showing it as a "designated route" for vehicle travel. Zero your odometer.
0.0 Leave Trout Creek Rd
0.5 Bear right at fork. Left looks possible on map; we did not try this
2.2 The left fork from 0.5 rejoins your route
3.8 The road ends at the wilderness boundary - there is parking for two or three vehicles
We followed the now-closed road for a way, then went north of cliffs (see GPS track). When you reach the 8600'+ saddle head south toward the summit rocks. There is an unlikely looking ledge on the west (right) side of the block that leads via a couple of easy class 3 moves to the base of a talus slope. Turn left up this slope to a saddle at its top, go right and drop perhaps 10 to 15 feet of elevation, and turn right again to another saddle. Turn left and climb the wall south of you (easy class 3) and pop out a few feet from the summit register. (My GPS track shows a few false starts, but this is the route we ended up using.)
