Ascent Trip Report

East Side Route: Head north on Hwy 95 from Winnemucca and shortly after crossing the river take a left(west) on signed Jungo Road, this road is paved for the first 9 miles then becomes graded and oiled gravel to Jungo 35 miles from the turn off, (watch out for cattle and occasional potholes). Then turn right and head north on the signed and graded Bottle Creek Road for 16 miles to a Y junction with Trout Creek Road, take the left fork and drive for about 4 miles until you see a metal "Designated Route" signpost on the left. This marks the rough Hi Clearance, 4WD dirt road up Big Cedar Creek. The road ends in 3.4 miles at a fenceline and grassy area marked with a large solitary rock, elevation 5400ft. From the road end I climbed up the slope to the left of the drainage and then sidehilled along the 6200ft contour below point 6682, then climbed up a steep slope towards a rocky outcrop at 7400ft (posn 41.2030364, 118.543382) passed the rocks on the right and shortly entered the drainage which curves around to the NW. Soon you will see the saddle with the summit on the left side.Snow still lingered in the drainage but the slopes were clear along the sides. At the saddle I headed south a short distance to the summit block and utilized a class 3 ledge and scree chute on the north side crossing over to a class 2 ledge on the SE side to the summit. Registry in glass jar.

Note: I had Verizon cell service up to the start of Big Cedar Creek Road and there is a ranch at the Y junction. However one needs to be prepared with fuel, extra water and a couple of spare tires. A regular car could make it to the start of Big Cedar Creek road but Trout Creek road has alot of small sharp tire eating rocks. I would not recommend the summit block route I took if there is snow or ice
