Ascent Trip Report

Did this as a day trip from Tokyo. Took the Shinkansen to Morioka (~3 hrs) and caught a taxi to the Umagaeshi trail head (no bus service). Had the entire summit to myself. Original plan was to find someone on the way up to hitch a ride with back to Morioka station, but because it was the middle of the week and I arrived late, only a few Japanese climbers were descending. My Hyakumeizan guidebook showed a bus stop at the junction of the southern route (Okamisaka)and the main road, so descended to the south. Very steep and rocky compared to the Yanagizawa ascent trail. Unfortunately, the map was wrong- no bus stop at the road, but I hiked a half mile down the road to a large nature park and was able to catch the last bus to Morioka station about 15 minutes later.
