Ascent Trip ReportSo, I was new to 52 Area/School of Infantry, my first duty station in the Navy as a brand new Hospital Corpsman. I convinced Raymond Windle, my roommate, to hike up the big hill behind our barracks. I missed my mountains back home in Utah, and these would have to do as a substitute. Pk 1394 has a firebreak straight up the NE ridge from the dirt roads leading up from School of Infantry. I won't add this bump to peakbagger because it's not really a peak. We just did the point that is marked as 1394 on the topo map, at the north end of the ridge for San Onofre Mtn. It's still quite a roller coaster ride to the actual peak. The Marines hike it pretty frequently, or at least they did back when I worked at School of Infantry. I later hiked the actual peak and descended via this ascent route as part of a hike with Alpha Company, ITB. |
