Ascent of Blue Angels Peak on 2013-03-16Others in Party: | Collin Kamholz BLMhikergirl Pipps ----Only Party on Mountain | Date: | Saturday, March 16, 2013 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | Peak: | Blue Angels Peak | Location: | USA-California | Elevation: | 4548 ft / 1386 m |
Ascent Trip ReportWe drove up the road toward the peak as far as we could go in Jodie's late model Chevrolet Malibu, then parked at a turnout - we could have gone even further had we wanted. An easy hike to the peak followed, the hardest part of which was figuring out where the true summit was. We hit both to be sure. This was mostly Class 1/2 with just a few light Class 3 moves mixed in that could be avoided I suspect. Afterward, we went and explored the international border with Mexico (just a few yards away), which consists of a barb wire fence with three of the five strands cut. After taking it all in, we headed back down the trail to the jeep road as the day was getting warm and we still had Sombrero Peak on the schedule. |
