Ascent Trip Report

Park at the USFS Woodlawn Work Center on US221 north of Marion. This is where the Mountain-to-Sea Trail (MST) crosses 221, and is the access point for Graveyard Mountain (east) as well as Grassy Knob (west). Many of the trails here are open to mountain bikes as well as horses.

To Grassy Knob, the MST follows a dirt road for 0.9 miles and then forks to the right. At this junction, stay on the road for one more switchback and then bushwhack up the fairly narrow ridge to the summit, which is not grassy but is open enough for views.
