Ascent Trip Report

A dirt road climb ....500 yards RT

We once again used a Fred Lobdell's TR of 2000, which one must read for the driving directions. Nothing has really changed, however an update is in order.

The gravel road (off of Andy Mountain Road) after the Andy Mountain Court is at .28 miles south of Hwy #78 and is now paved. It climbs 300 yards east to a water tower and is gated at the top. From there a dirt road continues 100 yards to the summit

A Power Line Transmission Tower sits on the summit with a Benchmark embedded in concrete right in its center "GEORGIA STATE HIGHWAY, CONTROL STATION, No. 048.202". The actual high ground is to one side of the Tower.
Three power line workers(?) were on the summit with a truck enjoying the view. a bit of debris was around the area, like beer bottles.

I actually erred in going to the summit, I went to the cul-du-sac of Andy Mountain Court, walked east between the 2 houses then south on a dirt track to the summit. On the way back Bob Hudgins, from house #8540 to the left, came out to tell me that he doesn't mind people walking through his property (he and his neighbor own the power-line-right-of-way) land but would like to be informed, "We've had problems with kids on motor bikes." A real nice guy.
