Ascent Trip Report

This was a fun hike with some easy Class 3 climbing. The trip started badly when on member of our club didn't show up at the rendezvous point. Turns out she lost her keys camping in Death Valley. We took the road up above the mine, just as the sun appeared over the ridge. It came in above the ridge blinding everyone, and not two seconds later Joel hit toaster oven sized boulder and became high centered on it. We eventually got it out with the jack and some flat (booster) rocks - no damage to his vehicle. The hike itself went up a gully to a saddle. The upper gully had 2-3 inches of powdery snow in many places and formed a wind funnel that made it really cold. Once to the saddle, things were warmer, and we made it to the summit in decent time. The route down was more side-hill and therefore had less gain and was a bit shorter. Wind funnel was still going in the gully, but this time I was dressed for it. We had all heard bushwhacking was a big deal on Kingston, but found it to be only moderate.
