Ascent Trip Report

I stopped at the Terlingua Lodge, asked about the permit system and key to the gate and 15 minutes later I was driving up Bare Bones Rd. They require you to have 4WD on the drive. It is probably a good idea to at least have high clearance.

I drove up to a "Y" with the left fork having a locked chain across the road like at the beginning of the road. The key does not fit this lock. I could see comm towers above on the locked gate road. I backed down and kept driving up the right fork to a saddle where the road ended and I parked there.

I put on my pack for the short hike and started climbing towards the towers. Then I checked my GPS and it indicated the high point was in the opposite direction. I came back down to my truck and hiked up the hill without towers where I found the high point. Great views, no Santa Claus, no reindeer, no snow, no Christmas music, just great views.
