Ascent Trip ReportHiked with Jason Stilson, his girlfriend Alicia Travison, and Matt Denoncour from HRRT. Unfortunately Alicia only made it about 0.5 miles into the hike. She had never winter hiked a major mountian before and went back to the car alone. Hiked up the Zander Scott Trail. Giants Washbowl was completely frozen over and covered with snow.
Top of Giant was extremely windy! Low visability, totally in a cloud. Saw several other groups out hiking. Weather on Zander Scott Trail was pleasant, no precipiation.
Completed Giant, then went over to Rocky Peak Ridge. Stopped for lunch in the col between the two. Jason brought his stove and made us hot macaroni and cheese. To save on water, he boiled down some snow. I thought the mac and cheese was "gourmet" with parsely or something, but it turns out it was very small pine needles from the snow.
RPR was clouded in as well. Hike back down was a ton of fun...did a lot of butt sliding to cut off switchbacks. Saw a couple guys with Slidy Sleds from EMS..must go buy one. |
