Ascent Trip Report

Bill Jacobs TR of 2001 still applies today. I followed his directions, this TR updates/adds a few details. I had to make 2 visits in order to call it successful.

I found my way to Richards, junction FM1486/FM149, and motored east on FM149 to a left turn on Bays Chapel Road (just past the county line, Longstreet Community Center on the corner), then traveled north on Bays Chapel Road 4.1 miles to Reaves Road on the left, Bays Chapel Church on corner.

FIRST VISIT OF 2012-01-19 .... with Bill's directions, I first tried an approach from the south, by driving west to the house at the end of Reaves Road at .3 miles from Bays Chapel Road. I found no one home and chose to go no further. This southern approach is not possible and wrong, since the HP is on the property to the north.
I then went back/continued north on Bays Chapel Road .36 miles to the gated Entrance #24705 on the left .... locked on this day, faded sign "Keep Gate Closed" but no restrictive signs or contact information, all is nicely fenced-in. This driveway leads .4 miles westbound, amid an open pasture, to farm buildings(?) on top of the hill.
The first house past #24705 is house #24709, I went there for information but no one home.
I decided to wait around a bit, hoping to have someone leave/enter the property, no luck. After 40 minutes with only one car going-by on Bays Chapel Road I decided to leave it for another day. I wasn't in a risky-kind-of-mood on this day.

We drove directly to entrance #2470(last number faded) and parked, again all was locked. Evidence of very little traffic on the grass/dirt driveway leading to the farm buildings (summit) and no signs of animals. A bulldozer was clearing the woods south of this entrance.
In a risky-kind-of-mood I stepped through the fence and walked to the summit ..... capped with a number of buildings, a small barn has been built right on the HP, the small house to its north appears to be abandoned. No one around and again no animals and little signs of use.
I walked the area, nothing really obvious but the HP appears to be just east of the small barn.

"NON SIBI SED OMNIBUS (Not for one but for all).
