Ascent Trip Report

Grindstone Knob is the highest point on the Tennessee section of the Iron Mountain Trail, which was formerly the AT. The trailhead is at Sandy Gap on US 421 between Mountain City and Shady Valley TN. Follow the blue-blazed trail northbound for 0.34 miles, where it crests. The summit is about 200 yards NW of the trail. There are several huge trees near the summit. There is supposed to be a BM but I could not find it in the snow.
